A French laboratory brings the management of the multitouch on touch screen to Linux

The multitouch made the success of the tactice interface of the iPhone of Apple. At the beginning of June, 2009, during Computex 2009, we could discover the management of the multitouch under Windows 7 on ASUS EEE PC T91 (see the videos of the articles of EeePC.de and jkkmobile.com). Perhaps that further to this announcement, LII (Laboratory of Interactive Computer science) from ENAC (National School of Aviation Cicile) wanted shown what he can make since this laboratory works on the multitouch many years (they find even a reference to a document dating of 1994).

This technology is known well to the general public thanks to the iPhone of Apple and to the tactile table Surface of Mircosoft today, but let us not forget that a lot of technologies were born in small neglected laboratories among which some French, public and paid by our taxes (I lived in some kms LII of during years and I discover the existence today!). Let us look now at the video of demonstration of him management of the multitouch brought by LII to Linux:

Look again at the management of the multitouch under Windows 7 (link above) and you will appreciate it différement I think ;-)

Thank you, do not throw it any more :-)

In fact, LII exist for a little less than three years. But history is of Toulouse nonetheless. The Centre of Studies of Aeronautics (current DTI of DGAC) worked a lot on tactile interfaces in the nineties, with innovations which were worth us the attention of Bill Gates to Comdex in 2003. The IntuiLab society created to Labège in 2002 to exploit these innovations, and developed then its own technologies, among which for some years an interactive table and software solutions for interactive surfaces. IntuiLab has recently belonged under searchlights thanks to the démo of R.U.S.E. of Ubisoft to E3 (the photo of Shigeru Miyamoto in front of the table is to collector in IntuiLab). And LII upper reache was born at the end of 2006 around research topics which appeared from jobs of CENA, of IntuiLab and from their partners.

And if we published video on Wednesday, it is because core 2.6.30 went out this day there :-)
